Painted Churches of Texas

Sometimes we find some of the best places when we're lost, but from time to time, we just stumble on them. That's the story of Flatonia and the Painted Churches of Texas. We were just driving up Old Highway 90 with no expectations at all and suddenly we found ourselves in Shulenberg, a charming little town with a Chamber of Commerce that could teach all of us a lesson or two in hospitality. After talking with us for a while, they decided that we really wanted to go on to Flatonia. What a treat!

The following pictures are a sample of the exteriors and interiors of the churches we visited.

And Flatonia itself was quite a treat. What a great place to experience small town America. And trains. And the sweetest little inn you can imagine.
