Aside from a trip into Wasilla to the ATT store we didn’t accomplish much. All the guys were busy at work so we just acted like the old retired couple that we are. We did a lot of reminiscing, I did a bit of writing, we had leftovers for lunch, and soon it was time for the highlight of the day.
For three years we made the trip from Stanley’s cabin to the Four Corners Lounge almost every Saturday night.
We danced at least a million miles to the music of Ken Peltier and his band. Although Ken himself couldn’t be with us on our wedding day, his band provided music for the wedding itself and the reception later at Mother Lode Lodge. All that to say, Ken Peltier’s music was a big part of our courtship.
Well, it happens that Ken would be in Fairbanks at the Golden Days Rodeo this weekend, the next weekend would be the wedding celebration for Sean and Erin, and the last weekend in July we would be back in Haines waiting for the ferry. Alas, it seemed we would miss a walk down that memory lane altogether. But as luck would have it, there was a one night show on Thursday night featuring the Reeves Brothers and Ken Peltier would perform afterward. We convinced Jesse to come with us and we snapped up three tickets quick as a wink.
I had managed to hurt my leg so I wasn’t up for dancing, but we thoroughly enjoyed watching, listening, and just being there. (Not to worry Leg will be fine. It just wasn’t up for dancing.)
There were some very good country dancers to watch. Two couples in particular did some awesome moves. The tall cowboy was the best of the lot. I’ve never seen anyone quite that smooth.
