And then up Hatcher Pass Rd to find remnants of the Mother Lode Lodge where we had our wedding reception and the rocks in the Little Susitna where the photographer took such dramatic pictures that day.
What a disappointment!
We knew the lodge had been destroyed by fire but we thought for sure there would be some remaining remnant. Not so. Nothing except a piece of mining equipment which may or may not have been from the outdoor display.
As for the rocks in the river, the state of Alaska has built an elaborate viewing/information platform directly over the access point. The next bride who has romantic pictures made on those rocks is going to be very nimble. She will have to clamber under the platform, down the slope they created and then wade through several inches of icy cold water or make a very risky leap.
