After lunch, we continued our drive. A few miles beyond the state park there was an opening in the trees that was almost breathtaking. Even more of the mountain was looking out over its foothills. I estimate the mountain was approximately 75-100 miles away from my location. What a beauty!
As we drove farther north, the mountains were more and more interesting. This is geology unfolding before your eyes. Interesting fact: Denali is continuing to grow higher in elevation- about 1 1/2 inch per year as it is still being squeezed by a tectonic plate from the south pressing against the Alaska plate.
We are all settled in a very nice room at the Aurora Denali Lodge. Chicken salad lettuce wraps are on tonight’s menu.
